Kate's Picture

I was surprised to see
this picture of LaRae's
up on Katie's wall...
I didn't know she did sheep
but isn't that like her
to look at two sides of
any issue?
She studied the off sides
of viewpoints on
religion, politics or human rights.
She admired the rebel.
She understood that point of view
and allowed discussion.
She went off to check out
the gay world with Richard,
the spirits with Gerry,
those medium workshops with LaRena,
Women Rights with advocates,
always testing each point of view.
She could see the point of sheep
as well as cattle
and why they hated each other.
She was a woman who seemed
to know all sides...
or always left the door open.

  1. I didn't know she painted sheep either. I am glad she included the sheep, too. No sense them being left out. I had a great fondness for my pet lamb, Black Wooley. And you are the only people I know who let a pet lamb grow old and die in your care. Gerry

  2. Nice poem. She had to do some sheep for Vic, Katie's Dad who came from a sheep family. It's very fitting for Kate to have this picture on her wall to remember that she comes from both places. Sometimes that is the most difficult, to have both sides of the argument inside yourself.

  3. I love this picture of the painting from Katie's wall. We had a few sheep on our ranch when we were kids, and we loved those little lambs. There were some very large llogs from an oldd house upon our little hill and the lambs would walk them, jump over, chase each other, and in general thought this was their own personal play house. We loved watching them in the evening as that was when they were the most frisky.

The painting has sort of a mystical quality. Yes LaRae was an "all around girl." Her sister Ann is mujch the same. I love this poem.
